Leanne Lightfoot carries her songs on raw, honest vocals that trace the quiet beauty of joy and sorrow, shaped by life’s hard-earned lessons. Writing of love and longing, the pull of the land, and the unseen threads that bind us, she invites listeners into intimate song-stories drawn from lived experience and borrowed lives alike. Woven with gentle humour and warm backstory, her performances offer rich emotional texture—where past and present blur, and where heartache and hope linger long after the music falls still.

Leanne Lightfoot grew up immersed in music, horses, and the wide-open pull of the outdoors—an upbringing that shaped both her life and her art. Before fully turning to songwriting, she built a successful career as a competitive dressage rider and trainer, a discipline that instilled patience, honesty, and emotional presence—qualities that now define her songs. The natural world and the quiet wisdom of time spent with horses are woven subtly through her writing, resonating deeply with listeners drawn to music rooted in place, reflection, and lived experience.
Her musical influences range widely, from the narrative grace of Willie Nelson to the prairie poetry of Ian Tyson. But it was hearing a recording by Iris DeMent that proved transformative. “I had never heard anything like it. It was startling,” Lightfoot recalls. “I started writing.” That moment sparked a songwriting voice grounded in truth, restraint, and emotional clarity.
Ten years after the release of Redtail Flyer, Lightfoot returned with Still Knowing (February 2025), a ten-song collection that brings her smoke-laced vocals and timeless storytelling to the forefront. Drawing on early musical roots and shaped by the hard-earned lessons of joy and loss, the album reflects a life lived in pursuit of authenticity, connection, and meaning. On stage, Lightfoot pairs her nuanced song-stories with warm, often comical banter, creating intimate performances that invite audiences in and linger long after the final note—where heartache and hope sit side by side, and where folk music does what it does best: tells the truth.
